The coastal city of Marmaris – with its endless coves and islets, golden beaches and azure blue seas – gets a remarkable 300 days of sun per year, making it one of Türkiye’s most popular holiday destinations for those seeking a healthy dose of vitamin D.

But away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Marmaris foreshore, Cook’s Club Adakoy is its own little pocket of paradise. Set against a backdrop of pine-clad mountains and clear blue sea, it’s the perfect springboard to explore the surrounding areas. A twenty-minute water taxi will have you right in the heart of Marmaris town, where a medieval castle, the cobblestoned old quarter and bustling Grand Bazaar are all within walking distance.

Outside Marmaris, the coves and bays of the Datça Peninsula and the Dalyan river make great daytrip destinations for those wanting to explore the greater area.

EATS

Gusta Bar & Grill

For Marmaris’ freshest seafood, head to Gusta Bar & Grill. Grab yourself a balcony table and watch the boats come in from a day at sea while the sun sets on the horizon. The menu champions a selection of delicious seafood and grilled meat dishes, paired with an innovative drinks’ menu.

Vamos Beach

The boho-inspired Vamos Beach club is the ideal place to spend a day in the sun to the soundtrack of laid-back summer tunes. A dynamic mix of sunbeds, crystal-clear water, great food and delicious drinks, Vamos is one of the hippest beach bars in Marmaris – perfect for people-watching and party-starting.

Ney

This tiny hole-in-the-wall gem serves up a traditional Turkish menu, home-cooked and handmade with love. Located just off the harbor front in a 250-year-old Greek stone abode, it’s one of the few restaurants in the area that has managed to retain a sense of charm and character – no fries on the menu here. The food is authentic, the service is friendly and the drinks are fresh.

Best ice cream in town

Gelateria

Located within the hotel, between the Market and the Cantina Restaurant, is the Gelateria serving varieties of ice cream and cold milkshakes. Because there’s nothing better than ice cream on a hot summer’s day.

SIGHTS

Datça

Perched on the southwestern shores of Türkiye, the Datça peninsula is so striking that the ancient Greeks believed it to have been created by Zeus himself. About an hour and a half’s drive from Cook’s Club Adakoy Marmaris, uncover a blissful fusion of bougainvillea-covered walls, olive groves and deserted beaches – a rarity in southern Türkiye. Spend the day exploring Eski Datça (Old Datça) and the ancient harbor of Knidos.

Marmaris National Park

Located just 6km from Marmaris town, the protected nature reserve of Marmaris National Park is a paradise of beautiful, unspoilt beaches, ancient cities and flora and fauna. Set over 29.206 hectares, it’s a haven of flora and fauna, with everything from bears and foxes to lynx and exotic birds. While you’re there, don’t miss the Paradise Island and the ancient cities of Physkos and Amos.

Marmaris castle

On the surface, it may seem as if Marmaris lacks history. But delve a little further and you’ll still be able to find ancient relics and medieval ruins worth exploring. Marmaris castle is one of them. Dating back to 3000BC, the stone-walled structure boasts beautiful gardens, a small museum and sweeping views over the harbor front. The narrow, cobble-stoned paths leading to the castle make up the small but beautiful Old Town of Marmaris, filled with little boutiques and hole-in-the-wall eateries.

Dalyan

The Dalyan river, located south-east of Marmaris, is brimming with nooks to be explored, including Turtle Bay – a strip of sand between the river and the Mediterranean Sea that has become a refuge for endangered loggerhead turtles and blue crabs. Spend the day boating through the maze of channels, soaking in the mineral mud baths and hot springs, or exploring the Lycian rock tombs, carved into the cliffs.
